BEDSPREAD—Bed
cover which reaches to the floor.
CORDED BOTTOM EDGE—Cording (usually
a large or jumbo size) is added to bottom edge of spread.
CORDED MATTRESS EDGE-Cording (usually
small)is added to seam between drops and top of spread. Also referred
to as welting: in either case the result is called a fitted spread.
COVERLET—Bed cover that reaches only
part way to floor. Used with a Dust Ruffle, or Petticoat.
DROP —The
portion of bed cover that covers the sides and foot of bed. On a
bedspread it averages about 21 " - on a coverlet about 13".
DUST RUFFLE OR PETTICOAT —That
portion made to fit over box springs and hide bed frame.
CORNER, BELL —Foot
corners of the spread are rounded and cause the corner to assume
a bell-like shape. Also called a cascade corner.
CORNER, BOXED —Split
corner seamed together to form-fit bed corner.
CORNER, DRESSMAKER —Dust
ruffle, straight sides with fullness on corners.
CORNER, HUGGER -Constructed like a
fitted sheet to form fit mattress corner.
CORNER, KICK PLEAT OR INVERTED PLEAT—Cover
slit at the foot and a pleated unquilted piece inserted.
CORNER. SPLIT with GUSSET—Cover is
slit at the foot corners and a quilted gusset attached to point
of mattress corners. Can be used on bedspread that does not have
welt at mattress edge.
CORNER, WRAP-AROUND —Foot
corners are slit and ends of side are hidden beneath the foot drop.
DUVET—Decorative slip cover for a pouf.
POUF —A
sack or tick containing pure white goose down.
SHAM, REGULAR OR SELF SHAM—That portion
of spread that covers the pillow and goes back over to the head
of bed and down behind the pillows. (20" allowed.)
SHAM, REVERSE —No
allowance is made in the length of spread but a separate piece is
made and attached at the head of the spread that comes back over
the pillows. (Usually 36" long.)
SHAM, FRENCH —This
is a reverse sham attached only across the mattress width, side
drops are not attached .
SHAM, SEPARATE —A
separate piece made to cover the pillows, not attached to the spread.
SHAM, SEPARATE PILLOW —A
cover for individual bed pillows with overlapping panels in back
for insertion of pillow.
TABLE COVER—Covers the entire table
with table topper being the small piece of material covering over
the tablecloth.
